Maybe you've got a camper that's tricky to park, or you're tired of that tight turn that has everyone backing up and trying again.

We're working on exactly that kind of project right now in Delaware, Ohio, where the winter weather's keeping things interesting.

Even with snow flying and temperatures dropping, we're out here getting it done.

Because here's the thing about driveway extensions - they might look simple, but doing them right means the difference between a quick fix that falls apart and something that'll serve your family for years to come.

Project Overview

This morning finds us in Delaware, working on a combination parking pad and camper space. You might call it a driveway extension, but whatever name you give it, the goal's the same - creating more usable space that can handle heavy vehicles and tight turns without breaking down.

The weather can't quite make up its mind today. One minute we're seeing snowflakes, the next it's trying to clear up. But that's just typical Ohio for you! These aren't ideal conditions, but they're not stopping us either. When you've been doing this work as long as we have, you learn to work with whatever nature throws your way.

Our mission here is pretty straightforward: build an extension that's going to hold up under all kinds of use. Whether you're parking a camper, making tight turns, or just need extra space for visitors, the foundation needs to be solid. That's why we're taking the time to do each step right, from proper excavation to choosing the exact right materials for each layer.

The Construction Process

Let me walk you through how we're tackling this project. First thing we did yesterday was prep the site.

That means digging everything out properly - you can't just throw stone on top of whatever's there and hope for the best.

A solid foundation starts with proper excavation.

Think of it like building layers of strength.

Each layer has its job to do, and if you skip steps or cut corners, you'll end up with problems down the road.

That's why we take the time to clear and prepare the ground before we even think about bringing in stone.

Speaking of stone, we're using three different types here, and each one has its purpose:

  • Number two base stone for the foundation (that's the heavy-duty stuff)
  • 304s for the middle layer
  • 57s for the top finish

It's like building a sandwich - each layer matters for the final result!

Understanding Materials

Here's something useful for anyone planning a similar project: when someone tells you they're bringing "twenty tons of number twos," it can be hard to picture what that really means.

Well, we've got a perfect example right here on this job site.

That pile you see?

That's exactly twenty tons of number two stone.

Now you know what to expect when your contractor talks about bringing in a truckload!

But why all these different types of stone? Here's the simple breakdown:

  • Number twos give you that solid base that won't shift or sink
  • 304s help level everything out
  • 57s on top give you a nice, smooth finish

Together, these layers create a surface that can handle everything from your daily driving to parking heavy campers without breaking down or washing out when it rains.

It's all about building something that's going to last.

Quality Considerations

Here's something we've learned over years of building driveways and extensions: it's not just about dumping stone and calling it good.

We're already out here with the skid steer, compacting each layer as we go.

This might seem like extra work, but it's crucial - especially in Ohio where the weather can't make up its mind from one day to the next.

When we're planning these extensions, we think about how you'll actually use the space.

Making that corner with your camper?

We make sure there's enough room and the right base support so you're not tearing things up every time you turn.

Dealing with spring rains and winter freezes?

That's why we build these solid layers that let water drain properly instead of pooling up or washing out your stone.

Closing

A proper driveway extension might take a little more time and material than you'd expect, but doing it right the first time saves so many headaches down the road.

Whether you're in Delaware or anywhere around central Ohio, the process stays the same - proper preparation, right materials, and careful attention to how you'll use the space.

If you're thinking about adding some extra parking space or making room for that camper, we'd love to take a look at your project.

We'll walk you through exactly what you need, from stone types to project timeline, so you know what to expect every step of the way.

Even if the weather can't make up its mind, we'll make sure your project turns out exactly right.

When people hear "rockhounding," they might think of collecting gemstones. But in our world, it means something different - we're cleaning up rocky yards to create spaces where grass can actually grow. Out here in Logan, we're tackling exactly this kind of project, turning challenging terrain into what will soon be a healthy lawn.

When we pulled up to this new build in Logan today, we faced a challenge we see pretty often: a yard full of rocks where grass needs to grow. Not just a few stones here and there - we're talking about rocks everywhere you look. It's the kind of situation that separates a good job from a rushed one.

When a customer's eyes light up at their new driveway, that's when you know you've done something special. That's exactly what happened today in Westerville, where we just wrapped up a complete driveway transformation that even surprised me - and I've been doing this work for years.
