Most folks see hydroseeding as just spraying grass seed on the ground.


But when you're dealing with 47,000 square feet - that's bigger than a football field - there's a whole lot more to it than that.


I've seen too many jobs where someone tried to take shortcuts, spraying seed on hard ground and hoping for the best.


That's like trying to plant a garden without tilling the soil first. Sure, some grass might grow, but you're never going to get the kind of lawn that makes neighbors stop and stare.

This Delaware project is a perfect example of why we take our time with prep work. We're looking at just over an acre of land that needs complete transformation - everything from the building area to the front of the house. That's not a small undertaking, and that's exactly why we planned for two full days of work.



For a job this size, we brought in our skid steer with a Harley rake attachment. Some might wonder why we need such serious equipment just to prep for grass. But when you're dealing with this much ground, you need tools that can handle the job right. It's not just about breaking up the soil - it's about creating the perfect foundation for new grass to take root and thrive.


Speaking of planning, we're aiming to get the ground prep done efficiently enough to start spraying at least a couple tanks of hydroseed on day one. This isn't just about getting the job done fast - it's about getting it done right while managing our time smartly.

The Ground Prep Process

Let me break down exactly why we're so particular about ground prep. That Harley rake on our skid steer isn't just for show - it's a game-changer for soil preparation. Think of it like this: if you've ever tried to plant grass seed in hard, packed dirt, you know most of it just sits there or washes away with the first rain. The Harley rake breaks up all that compacted soil, giving those new grass seeds a fighting chance.
