Taking the Plunge

WHY WE'RE EXPANDING INTO POOL INSTALLATIONS

Sometimes the best opportunities come from being ready to grow.

Here at Double B, we've built our reputation on solid excavation work - drainage solutions, grade work, and foundation prep.

But this week marks a big milestone for us: we're starting our first in-ground pool installation in Granville.

This isn't a decision we made lightly.

When you've earned your customers' trust through careful work and attention to detail, you want to make sure any new service lives up to those same standards.

That's why we've been planning and preparing for this moment, making sure we're ready to deliver the same quality our customers expect, just in a new way.

Project Overview

Let me walk you through what we're dealing with in Granville. The site itself presents some interesting challenges - we're working with a sloped area that runs right up against a garage foundation. Not exactly the easiest spot for a first pool installation, but that's exactly why careful planning matters so much.

Before we could even think about digging for the pool, we had to address the slope. We brought in a specialized team to install boulder walls, creating the support we need while protecting the garage foundation. This kind of prep work is crucial - you can't just start digging and hope for the best when you're dealing with structural elements.

The timeline is tight but manageable. With the boulder wall in place on one side, we're coordinating the pool delivery for early afternoon. But before that arrives, we've got an excavator coming in and a whole lot of precise measurements to make. When you're putting in a pool, there's no room for "close enough" - everything has to be exactly right.

Preparation Process

You might think digging a pool is just about making a big hole, but there's so much more to it than that. Our first step was really studying this Granville site. We had to think about how water flows through the property, how to protect that garage foundation, and where exactly this pool needs to sit to make everything work together.

Measurement is probably the most critical part of pool prep - and we're not taking any chances. We're setting pins and double-checking measurements multiple times. Think about it: once that pool shell arrives, everything needs to be exactly right. Too deep, too shallow, or even slightly off-level, and you've got major problems on your hands.

Technical Challenges

The biggest challenge we're facing is that slope. Sure, we could have suggested a different location, but this is where the homeowner wants their pool, so we're making it work. That's where those boulder walls come in - they're not just for looks. They're engineered to hold back the soil and protect everything while we work.

Then there's the garage foundation to think about. We're actually digging deeper than the garage footer, which means we have to be extra careful not to undermine it. This is where our excavation experience really pays off. We understand soil conditions, pressure points, and how to protect existing structures while we work.

Learning Curve and Expertise

Here's something interesting about excavation work: while every project is different, the basic principles stay the same. Whether we're fixing drainage issues or prepping for a pool, it's all about understanding how water moves, how soil behaves, and how to work with the land instead of against it.

We've spent years perfecting our grade work and drainage solutions. Now we're taking all that knowledge and applying it to pool installation. Yes, there are new things to learn - and we're excited about that. But we're building on a foundation of experience that tells us exactly how to approach these challenges.

Our attention to detail has always set us apart, and that's not changing just because we're working on something new. If anything, we're being even more careful, double-checking everything, and making sure every step is done exactly right. Because at the end of the day, our reputation rides on every project we take on.

Looking Forward

You know what's exciting about this Granville pool project? It's more than just a single installation - it's opening up a whole new chapter for Double B. We've already got the excavation expertise, the right equipment, and a deep understanding of how water and soil work together. Adding pools to our services just makes sense.

But we're taking it one step at a time. This first pool installation is teaching us a lot, and we're documenting everything. Each measurement, each challenge, each solution - it's all helping us build a better process for future projects. Because that's how we do things at Double B: learn, improve, and deliver better results every time.

What's Next

For this Granville project, our next steps are clear. Once we've got all our measurements triple-checked, we'll start the actual dig. The pool's being delivered this afternoon, and we'll be ready for it. Everything needs to be perfect when that shell arrives.

If you're thinking about adding a pool to your property, we'd love to talk about it. Our approach might be a bit different from other contractors - we probably ask more questions and spend more time on preparation. But that's because we believe in doing things right the first time.

Stay tuned for updates on this Granville project. We'll be sharing more about the installation process and showing you exactly how we're turning this sloped yard into a beautiful pool setting. Because at Double B, we believe in being transparent about our work and sharing what we learn along the way.

Sometimes the straightforward jobs turn out to be anything but. That's exactly what we found when we started working on a barn upgrade in Brownsville. What began as a basic drainage project quickly evolved into something more complex - and more important - when we discovered existing electric lines and drainage systems

You might not notice it at first glance, but that slight bump running down the middle of your gravel driveway could spell trouble when winter hits. We call this a "crown," and while it might seem like a minor issue now, it's exactly the kind of problem that can turn into a real headache once snow starts flying.

When you're finishing up a property, timing isn't just important - it's everything. That's exactly what we're dealing with today in New Albany, where we're putting the final touches on a project that requires both precision and patience.
